Praxis AI, an education tech firm, joins AWS accelerator program

Praxis AI’s Recognition in AWS Education Accelerator Marks Milestone for Sacramento EdTech

Sacramento’s edtech startup, Praxis AI, has earned a spot in the inaugural AWS Education Accelerator, organized by Amazon Web Services, the internet service division of Amazon. Established in January 2023, Praxis AI utilizes generative artificial intelligence to assist researchers and students by providing ideas and sources for papers and research projects.

According to Brian Boyd, one of the founders and head of customer support at Praxis AI, the platform guides users to sources without generating the content. While Amazon Web Services has previously hosted accelerators for various technology industries, this marks the debut of the AWS Education Accelerator. As part of the AWS Education Accelerator, each participating company, including Praxis AI, is set to receive substantial support with up to $100,000 in AWS computing credits. CEO David Clarke’s recent immersion at Amazon in Seattle marked the commencement of the 10-week accelerator, characterized by an intensive information-sharing experience.

In contrast to sourcing information randomly, Praxis AI distinguishes itself by tapping into verified and trusted sources, enhancing its utility for academic research. Leveraging multiple advanced language models like GPT-4, Claude, and Stable Diffusion, Praxis AI positions itself at the forefront of cutting-edge technology in the education technology landscape.

Praxis AI’s Pria 2.0: Guiding Academic Exploration in Innovative Ways

For instance, Praxis AI’s mentor, named Pria 2.0, allows users to request suggestions for research paper topics. Pria provides ideas, and users can delve deeper into a chosen topic, accompanied by cited sources. “It will lead you to the information, but it won’t write the paper,” clarified a company representative. The platform is undergoing pilots in select high schools and is implemented at 80 universities, including Clemson University. Praxis AI generates revenue by charging for access to Pria searches, a fee covered either by students or schools.

Praxis AI, with a team of six employees and an additional 25 team members working remotely from locations like Sacramento, Oakland, Pleasanton, Livermore, and South Carolina, has undisclosed revenue from users. The company, currently without external investments, operates independently.

As part of the AWS Education Accelerator program, Praxis AI benefits from workshops, tailored curriculum, business mentoring, and technical guidance. The program offers insights from Amazon teams, networking opportunities, and ongoing advisory support for a year. Participants, including Praxis AI, will also be featured in a technology showcase. The platform allows users to customize the appearance, with Pria being an AI-generated image that users can choose or modify to suit their school’s image or create a new one.
