Secretary of Education unveils the National Educational Technology Plan for 2024

The 2024 National Educational Technology Plan (NETP) has been recently declared by the U.S. Department of Education, serving as a rallying cry to address the disparities in digital access, design, and usage. Originating from the 1994 Improving America’s Schools Act, the NETP has undergone various updates, most recently in 2016. Education Secretary Miguel Cardona emphasized the substantial investments made by the administration, ranging from the American Rescue Plan to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

Secretary Cardona expressed the need to elevate educational standards, stating, “As we strive to enhance education, it is crucial to empower teachers as architects of active learning, utilizing technology effectively to engage and inspire students. The 2024 National Educational Technology Plan represents a forward-thinking approach to reshape and unlock the potential of educational technology, aiming to improve the instructional core, narrow achievement gaps, and enhance student learning in our schools.”

In addition to the 2024 NETP, the department will provide guidance on comprehending the assistive technology (AT) requirements of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and present a compilation of federal resources supporting students in digital health, safety, and citizenship
