The Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham displayed its AI applications and solutions at the Global AI Expo at the GPAI conference.
From December 12 to 14, 2023, India, in its capacity as the Chair of the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI), successfully organized and conducted the GPAI Summit at the Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.
Nearly 22,000 people attended the event, with almost 15,000 AI enthusiasts participating virtually. At the Global AI Expo, additional up-and-coming businesses and well-known technology corporations present their AI solutions and applications.
We shall examine the Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Amritapuri Campus, project presentation this week.
AI in Sustainability
It is a crowdsourced, integrated platform that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to drive benchmarking, recommendations, monitoring, assessment, and multi-scale sustainability and resilience. This portal tackles sustainability and resilience challenges across thematic areas and gathers data at the community level. Using SDG criteria as a guide, the platform maps, monitors, and evaluates sustainability and resilience indicators to provide policy recommendations.
AI in Agriculture (Addressing Human-Elephant Conflict in Villages)
Elephants regularly invade fields used for agriculture, consuming crops and endangering the livelihoods of the locals. Solar fence keeps these trespassers at bay. Elephants are skilled at figuring out how to get past fences. It made the creation of an Elephant Early Warning System necessary, which uses cameras and AI algorithms to detect elephants in real time and efficiently. The device alerts the locals via SMS and Telegram when it detects an elephant.
The team used a small model with cameras, sensors, solar fence, and a mock field to show off their Elephant Warning System. The team demonstrated during the demonstration how an elephant crossing the infrared beam causes the camera to snap a picture of the trespasser. The machine swiftly examines the picture using the AI algorithm to verify that it is an elephant. If the trespasser is an elephant, a Telegram warning is delivered.
AI in Disaster Management
The IoT and advanced AI technologies are used by the landslide monitoring and early warning system to provide real-time early warnings based on AI models created from data collected from geographically dispersed sensors. Important areas such as the Western Ghats in Munnar, Kerala, and the Himalayas in Chandmari, Sikkim, have this system implemented. Our system has shown its dependability by integrating 25 wireless nodes and 150 geological sensors for real-time monitoring since 2009. The system’s potential to prevent calamities and save lives was shown by its prompt warnings during important occurrences in Munnar between 2009 and 2021.
A US patent for a predictive landslide system and other notable honors, such as the 2023 Averted Disaster Award and the World Center of Excellence Award for Landslide Disaster Risk Reduction (2017–2023), are given recognition for this work. With landslides costing the global economy $400 million in losses each year, their creative solution fills a vital gap in disaster preparedness.
AI in Health
Their team created a ground-breaking 5-in-1 wearable device that eliminates pricking or cuffing and provides quick, non-invasive monitoring of blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen levels, blood glucose, and respiration rate in just two minutes for patients with diabetes and heart patients. It was tested on 2000 patients, received three US patents, and finished second in the 2023 Medical Awards. Its substantial social impact is further demonstrated by the fact that the AI-based sleep apnea assessment tool is expected to benefit over 1 million patients yearly.
AI in Disability
For the purpose of recognizing queries and terminology in sign language throughout Pan-India e-Gov services’ FAQs, this technology focuses on artificial intelligence and machine learning. Additionally, it will construct a chat system for the deaf, enabling them to ask questions and get answers in Indian Sign Language. The initiative is anticipated to have a major effect on India’s deaf population. They will be able to autonomously and dignifiedly use e-governance services thanks to it. Additionally, it will encourage the usage of ISL and assist spread awareness of the difficulties encountered by the deaf community.
AI in Education
Their cutting-edge learning management system is a dynamic platform built on ChatGPT customization and LLM, emphasizing a comprehensive three-tiered approach: Doubt Clearance, Learning Materials, and Self-assessment. With over 10 lakh active users and deployments in many government institutions, including NSDC, AdvLMS is at the forefront of educational technology.
