Bill Gates encourages IIT Delhi students to use technology for social benefit

Gates delivered the keynote talk, followed by a question-and-answer session chaired by Gazal Kalra, an IIT Delhi graduate, co-founder of Rivigo in India, and the founder and CEO of Clean Energy Ministerial.

During his lecture, Gates stressed the necessity of new technology in addressing ongoing health and development issues and the need for scalable, cost-effective solutions to ensure fair distribution. He highlighted India’s successes in vaccine manufacturing, artificial intelligence for education, and digital public infrastructure, as well as its contributions to the global public good. He stressed the need of collaboration between educational institutions, the government, and the private sector in producing ideas having broad societal implications.

“I hope that as you plan your future after IIT, you will use the skills you learned here to improve lives in India and worldwide,” remarked Bill Gates. “There are an incredible amount of ways you can make a difference. “I’m excited to see what you do for India and the world,” he continued.

Bill Gates’ keynote address discussed the future of technology, creating new-age firms, technology, and his approach to charitable influence. The students pre-submitted almost 2,000 questions for Gates, seeking his advice on a variety of themes such as becoming an entrepreneur and establishing an organization similar to Microsoft.
